Biomedical Engineering Technician
Job description
Under the authority of the IURDPM department head and in close collaboration with the engineers, the incumbent carries out the acquisition, installation, troubleshooting, calibration, construction, modification, acquisition and maintenance of electronic and mechanical equipment in the research laboratories and makes the necessary recommendations for their proper functioning in order to support the researchers and their teams in their research activities.
Main tasks
Installation, calibration and troubleshooting
- Install and calibrate various equipment (electronic and mechanical);
- Troubleshoot all types of equipment (electronic and mechanical);
- Ensure the maintenance of all types of equipment (electronic and mechanical);
- Order and install replacement partsp;
- Ensure the proper functioning and safety of equipment in the electronic and mechanical workshops including infection prevention and control infections.
Development and design
- Design electronic prototypes, control circuits and interfaces, including force sensors;
- Develop microcontroller-based circuits;
- Design and manufacture various electromechanical assemblies;
- Machine mechanical parts for the manufacture of equipment parts;
- Conceive printing specifications, design and operate the 3D printer;
Procurement and inventory
- Write requests for the purchase of various equipment and supplies;
- Prepare requests for quotations for various products;
- Liaise with suppliers and bidders for acquisitions;
- Follow up with suppliers for equipment repairs and upgrades;
- Support the research of new products, and the evaluation of the best strategy to meet specific needs;
- Manage the inventory of supplies for the electronic and mechanical workshops, within a given given budget;
- Maintain a record of equipment loans to IURDPM members, partners and clinical programs and clinical programs as well as equipment placed in storage;
- Manage the inventory of computer equipment and equipment in all IURDPM research facilities research facilities of the IURDPM.
Direct support for research teams and emerging researchers
- Assist in developing disinfection sheets for equipment;
- Organize demonstrations of new products with suppliers;
- Help establish procedures for the use of certain equipment;
- Participate in the organization of training sessions for research teams related to the use of equipment;
- Pass on knowledge and train the next generation in his field.
Profile required
- Diploma of Collegial Studies (DCS) in an electronic technique, such as electronics technology, industrial electronics technology, computer systems technology or technologies or physical technologies from a school recognized by the competent ministry competent ministry;
- Certificate in biomedical engineering considered an asset;
- Work experience in biomedical technologies considered an asset;
- Knowledge of the research environment considered an asset;

- Handling of heavy and cumbersome equipment on an episodic basis, various work positions;

- The Biomedical Engineering Technicians Association (BETA) represents biomedical engineering technicians in the biomedical engineering technicians in the public and private sector;
