The Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) at Western University is seeking an emerging academic with an established program of research in an area of Advanced Health Care Practice (AHCP). This appointment will be Probationary (tenure- track) at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be appointed in one of the six Schools within the Faculty (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Health Studies, Kinesiology, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy), depending on the applicant’s area of research application and discipline. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2023, or as negotiated. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Faculty is a large, diverse, and comprehensive unit. FHS delivers undergraduate programs in three Schools, and graduate programs in six disciplines, while offering a unique learning experience that enables students to develop a comprehensive understanding of health-related issues affecting people in all corners of the world. A spirit of collaboration has become part of the fabric of the Faculty and helps bring together world-class researchers and teachers across its six schools. The Faculty also has large Faculty-wide interdisciplinary graduate programs including the Health & Rehabilitation Sciences program, and the Advanced Health Care Practice (AHCP) program. FHS has four signature research areas, and four Research Centres: Centre for Research on Health Equity and Social Inclusion, Canadian Centre for Activity and Aging, International Centre for Olympic Studies, and the National Centre for Audiology. The Faculty has more than 3,700 undergraduate students and more than 1000 graduate students (including 200+ PhD students).

The first program of its kind in Canada, the AHCP program is a one-year (three terms) course-based master’s program that uses primarily online education, supplemented with in-person residency periods, where appropriate. The AHCP program offers two degrees and eight Fields of study: a Master of Health Sciences in 1) Health Equity and Sustainability and 2) Applied Health Sciences; or a Master of Clinical Science in 1) Comprehensive Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, 2) Interprofessional Pain Management, 3) Clinical Epidemiology and Research Management, 4) Wound Healing, 5) Sport and Exercise Medicine, and 6) Upper Extremity Rehabilitation. The program is interprofessional, based on adult and active learning principles, and consolidates learning through experiential capstone projects with community partners.

Mandate

The successful candidate will hold a PhD and will have a background in a health-related discipline such as Health Sciences/Studies, Nursing, Kinesiology, or Rehabilitation Sciences. The successful candidate will have demonstrated 1) a track record of excellence in research related to the AHCP program including but not limited to external funding, peer- reviewed publications, and national/international exposure through conference presentation, as appropriate for their stage of career; 2) varied experiences in online and in-person teaching, and enthusiasm for quality and innovative educational practices. Preference will be given to candidates whose research and scholarship are aligned with the Faculty/School research strengths. Evidence of leadership would be an asset. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated capacity to contribute substantively to an inclusive and diverse academic community.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach online and face-to face; lead a program of impactful research, including the acquisition of funding and dissemination of findings; and engage in service to the School and the Faculty of Health Sciences. In short, the successful candidate will be an academic with demonstrated teaching and research excellence, creativity, and leadership ability. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
