L.I.P.S. – Laboratory for Impaired Production of Speech
Description
Research in the Laboratory for Impaired Production of Speech (L.I.P.S.) explores acquired motor speech disorders that result from neurological damage, with a particular focus on neurodegenerative disorders and intra-speaker variability. Our objectives include:
- The study of the deficits underlying the impairment of the various speech subsystems, as well as the interactions between these subsystems and with other cognitive processes, to improve diagnosis and management;
- The development of assessment tools with robust psychometric properties for the detection and monitoring of speech disorders, particularly in French-speaking individuals and for the identification of acoustic biomarkers;
- The study of intra-individual variation in healthy and pathological speech to strengthen the validity of clinical assessments.
The main methods used in the lab include acoustic and perceptual analyses, along with complementary instrumental and clinical measurements. Ongoing projects focus on the study of speech in diverse clinical populations, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), primary progressive aphasia (PPA) and primary progressive apraxia of speech (PPAS), and of inter- and intra-individual variability in speakers with and without neurological disorders.
