The concept of rehabilitation potential: better defining it to better evaluate it

Conference presented by the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital of the CISSS de Laval

Priscilla Lam Wai Shun, OT, MSc, PhD candidate

Priscilla Lam Wai Shun is an occupational therapist. She is currently writing her doctoral thesis on the concept of rehabilitation potential for people with acquired brain injury. She has worked for several years in an acute care hospital at the McGill University Health Centre and is regularly involved in teaching in the occupational therapy program at the Université de Montréal.

Description: It is generally believed that a patient must have rehabilitation potential to be a candidate for post-hospital rehabilitation. The term “rehabilitation potential” is used both by clinicians and in clinical practice guidelines or as a criterion for admission to rehabilitation programs. However, to date, there is no consensus definition of the concept of rehabilitation potential to guide its assessment. The purpose of this presentation is to present the results of an analysis of the concept of rehabilitation potential based on the current literature and to discuss possible clinical implications.

The presentation will be in French.
