{"id":2445,"date":"2017-05-30T16:59:45","date_gmt":"2017-05-30T20:59:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/crir.ca\/?page_id=2445"},"modified":"2026-08-10T11:13:23","modified_gmt":"2026-08-10T15:13:23","slug":"the-research-ethics-board-reb-in-brief","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/crir.ca\/en\/ethics\/the-research-ethics-board-reb-in-brief\/","title":{"rendered":"The Research Ethics Board (REB) in Brief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An essential component of the CRIR\u2019s mission is to promote collaboration and research activities among rehabilitation institutions, universities and funding agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong><em>Comit\u00e9 d&#8217;\u00e9thique de la recherche\u00a0en readaptation et en d\u00e9ficience physique<\/em><\/strong> (CER RDP) reports to the Board of Directors of Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec Centre-Sud-de-l&#8217;\u00cele-de-Montr\u00e9al &#8211; Universitaire. A delegation agreement is in place with the three other CRIR administrator establishments. Accordingly, the CRIR administrator establishments that work with the CER RDP for their research projects in rehabilitation are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec Laval<\/strong><br \/>\nJewish Rehabilitation Hospital (JRH)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie-Centre<\/strong><br \/>\nInstitut Nazareth et Louis-Braille (INLB)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec West-Central Montreal Health and Social Services University Network<\/strong><br \/>\nLethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (LLMRC)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sant\u00e9 Qu\u00e9bec Centre-Sud-de-l\u2019\u00cele-de-Montr\u00e9al &#8211; Universitaire<\/strong><br \/>\nInstitut universitaire sur la r\u00e9adaptation en d\u00e9ficience physique de Montr\u00e9al (IURDPM)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CER RDP reviews every research project involving humans that meets one or more of the following criteria in relation with a CRIR administrator establishment:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The project will be conducted, at least in part, within the establishment;<\/li>\n<li>Participants are to be recruited from among the establishment&#8217;s users or through records maintained by the establishment;<\/li>\n<li>The sponsors or rsearchers state or imply the establishment&#8217;s participation;<\/li>\n<li>The project will use the establishment&#8217;s human, material, or financial resources;<\/li>\n<li>The project will use personal information contained in records held by the establishment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The CER RDP is recognized by the three universities affiliated with CRIR (Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al, Universit\u00e9 McGill, and Universit\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al), provided that agreements exist between the university and at least one institution where the project has been submitted.<\/p>\n<p>The CER RDP is designated by Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Minister of Health and Social Services under Article 21 of the <em>Civil Code of Qu\u00e9bec<\/em>, allowing the REB to evaluate projects that could interfere with the integrity of a minor or a person of full age who is incapable of giving consent.<\/p>\n<p>The CER RDP is governed by the <a href=\"https:\/\/ccsmtl-mission-universitaire.ca\/sites\/mission_universitaire\/files\/media\/document\/RE_3000_002_V2_0.pdf\">cadre r\u00e9glementaire de la recherche de la direction de l\u2019enseignement universitaire et de la recherche of the Centre-Sud-de-l&#8217;\u00cele-de-Montr\u00e9al<\/a> (2020) (French only).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An essential component of the CRIR\u2019s mission is to promote collaboration and research activities among rehabilitation institutions, universities and funding agencies.
