Ongoing studies are exploring KT and health sciences education where Aliki Thomas uses an educational psychology perspective to examine teaching and learning in complex areas such as evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning, expertise development, and evidence-informed health professions education. As an educational researcher and KT scientist at McGill’s Center for Medical Education, Aliki Thomas is developing and evaluating the scholarship on implementation science in health professions education. She is also leading KT initiatives provincially, nationally and internationally.
Dr. Thomas’ current research projects span three major areas of rehabilitation education and practice:
1) admissions and selection;
2) professional education (teaching and assessment of evidence-based practice);
3) professional practice and KT.
In this last arm of her research, she investigates evidence-to-practice gaps in rehabilitation practices and is involved in studies on the use of theory in the design and delivery of effective KT interventions. Aliki Thomas is interested in the concept of the scholarship of practice and the outcomes of clinician-researcher partnerships on clinical practice. She is a recognized expert in scoping review methodology.

Key-words

Evidence-based practice, stroke, knowledge translation, rehabilitation, mixed methods, educational research, occupational therapy, education, knowledge and comptencies.

Website

mcgill.ca/keep-lab
mcgill.ca/spot/aliki-thomas
mcgill.ca/teachingsnapshots/aliki-thomas
twitter.com/keeplab

Axis and research theme

AXIS 2 – Participation, Social Inclusion and Rehabilitation Services
THEME 2 – Services, Systems and Policy

Research team

Aliki Thomas, Ph.D., OT(c), erg.

Contact information

E aliki.thomas@mcgill.ca

School of Physical and Occupational Therapy
3654 Sir William Osler, Rm 4
Montreal, Quebec
H3G 1Y5
P 514 398-4496

Centre for Medical Education
Faculty of Medicine
McGill University
1110, Pine Avenue West, Rm 307
Montreal Québec H3G 1A3
P 514 398-5456

Description Research in the K.E.E.P Lab focuses on education in the health professions and knowledge translation (KT) for evidence-based practices.
