The candidate will join the laboratory of Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/crir.ca\/en\/member\/joseph-paul-nemargut-ph-d\/\">Joe Nemargut<\/a>, PhD, COMS at the School of Optometry at the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al.<\/p>\n<p>The individual will work on developing inclusive technology to assist people with visual impairments to navigate indoor, dynamic, complex environments with more independence and ease of travel.<\/p>\n<p>The individual with work with a multidisciplinary team in collaboration with <strong>Dr. Kim Khoa Nguyen<\/strong> at the \u00c9cole de Technologie Sup\u00e9rieure (\u00c9TS) and members of the research and development teams at <strong>VMware Canada<\/strong> and <strong>Humanitas<\/strong>, Inc.<\/p>\n<h2>Tasks and responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Develop documentation, accessible to individuals living with low vision or blindness, including questionnaires, protocols, invitations, and assessments.<\/li>\n<li>Actively collaborate with local and national associations serving people with visual impairments<\/li>\n<li>Work directly with people living with visual impairments in the laboratory, clinical, and retail environments.<\/li>\n<li>Manage your studies in the area of vision rehabilitation and related fields.<\/li>\n<li>Manage project-related collaborations with group members and others.<\/li>\n<li>Support laboratory research environments and assist other laboratory members as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Assist clinical master\u2019s students in the visual impairment and rehabilitation program in their research projects.<\/li>\n<li>Contribute to the writing of project proposals, grants, and manuscripts in the fields of inclusive technology and vision rehabilitation.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain appropriate records of experiments, protocols, and data as directed by the Ethics committee of the approved project.<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe working environment in accordance with the guidelines of the department.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborate on scientific dissemination projects and represent the research team at scientific events.<\/li>\n<li>Follow mandatory training courses required by the Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al and the school of optometry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Qualifications<\/h2>\n<h3><strong><em>required<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Intermediate knowledge of English, as documentation, data, and communication will be at least in English.<\/li>\n<li>Desire to learn spoken and written French (if not already acquired)<\/li>\n<li>Expertise using accessibility settings for the visually impaired for portable electronic devices (smartphones, smart watches, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Hold a masters (or close to a thesis defense) in rehabilitation, social sciences, or a related field.<\/li>\n<li>Record of publications or demonstrated scientific excellence for the career stage.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to communicate results clearly and concisely.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to collaborate effectively with team members with rehabilitation, engineering, and computer science backgrounds.<\/li>\n<li>Ability to assess the needs of participants and communicate with them in an unbiased manner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong><em>DESired<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Intermediate knowledge of French, as some participants and team members will communicate in French and some documentation will be provided in French.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in technology development.<\/li>\n<li>Personal experience living with a visual impairment.<\/li>\n<li>Previous experience analyzing quantitative and qualitative data.<\/li>\n<li>Currently or previously worked in the field of vision rehabilitation.<\/li>\n<li>Current or past experience in health care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Interested in joining our team?<\/h2>\n<p>Please enclose a <strong>cover letter<\/strong>, <strong>CV<\/strong>, and <strong>references <\/strong>with your application.
