The Research Ethics Board (REB) in Brief

An essential component of the CRIR’s mission is to promote collaboration and research activities among rehabilitation institutions, universities and funding agencies.
The Comité d’éthique de la recherche en readaptation et en déficience physique (CER RDP) reports to the Board of Directors of Santé Québec Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal – Universitaire. A delegation agreement is in place with the three other CRIR administrator establishments. Accordingly, the CRIR administrator establishments that work with the CER RDP for their research projects in rehabilitation are:

Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital (JRH) - Santé Québec Montérégie-Centre
Institut Nazareth et Louis-Braille (INLB) - Santé Québec West-Central Montreal Health and Social Services University Network
Lethbridge-Layton-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (LLMRC) - Santé Québec Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal – Universitaire
Institut universitaire sur la réadaptation en déficience physique de Montréal (IURDPM)
The CER RDP reviews every research project involving humans that meets one or more of the following criteria in relation with a CRIR administrator establishment:
- The project will be conducted, at least in part, within the establishment;
- Participants are to be recruited from among the establishment’s users or through records maintained by the establishment;
- The sponsors or rsearchers state or imply the establishment’s participation;
- The project will use the establishment’s human, material, or financial resources;
- The project will use personal information contained in records held by the establishment
The CER RDP is recognized by the three universities affiliated with CRIR (Université de Montréal, Université McGill, and Université du Québec à Montréal), provided that agreements exist between the university and at least one institution where the project has been submitted.
The CER RDP is designated by Québec’s Minister of Health and Social Services under Article 21 of the Civil Code of Québec, allowing the REB to evaluate projects that could interfere with the integrity of a minor or a person of full age who is incapable of giving consent.
The CER RDP is governed by the cadre réglementaire de la recherche de la direction de l’enseignement universitaire et de la recherche of the Centre-Sud-de-l’Île-de-Montréal (2020) (French only).
