Biostatistician position

JOB DESCRIPTION

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Clinical Research and the administrative responsibility of the head of the CRIUGM department, the person offering the biostatistics service supports the research teams in the preparation of research projects and grant applications, in the analysis and publication of the results of experimental, clinical or epidemiological studies, and in the training and supervision of students in biostatistics.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

SUPPORT FOR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

  • Collaborate in the development of research protocols by participating in the design, operationalization and revision of analytical plans to optimally answer research questions;
  • Advise teams on the choice of measures according to the bio/psychometric qualities of the instruments available;
  • Coaches research teams in the application of systematic methods of quality control of research data and, where appropriate, in the application of data correction and transformation methods;
  • Supervise the implementation of analysis plans by research team members, and, depending on the volume of requests, perform analyses that require advanced skills;
  • Prepare detailed and didactic analysis reports tailored to the skill level of team members to ensure reproducibility;
  • Guide team members in the selection and implementation of graphical representations of results.

ASSISTANCE IN SCIENTIFIC WRITING

  • Review sections describing statistical analyses, including power and sample size calculations, in grant applications and scientific publications.

TRAINING SUPPORT

  • Identify general training needs for research teams in statistical methods and in the use of scripts (syntax) in the most common analysis software;
  • Identify available and relevant statistical training according to the needs and skill level of research team members, and in particular students;
  • To develop training courses targeting the specific needs of the teams in statistics in complementarity with the training offers available on various open access platforms and in the universities;
  • Raise awareness of good practices in terms of documentation of all stages of data processing to ensure processing to ensure reproducibility;
  • Determine effective training strategies for team members, taking into account their specific needs and according to their profile and level of training (e.g. bibliographic resource bank, online training, training workshops, direct individual or small group supervision).

EXECUTIVE SUPPORT

  • To support the scientific management of CRIUGM and CRIR in identifying statistical measures and indices relevant to their activities (e.g., participant bank, clinical research unit, grants, student population, etc.).
  • Support the CRIUGM and CRIR administrative infrastructure team from time to time in all tasks inherent to the proper functioning of the research center and during scientific events.

Required skills

  • Graduate degree in biostatistics or a relevant field in clinical research or epidemiology;
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience in clinical research support;
  • Skills in quantitative parametric and non-parametric methods, ROC analysis and other relevant indices (e.g. ICC/ SEM/ MDC/ Blant Altman), Bayesian statistics, multivariate approaches (ICA/PCA, multiple regression, multilevel analyses, discriminant analyses), modeling (e.g. mediation, runway analyses, survival analysis), power analyses, factorial validity, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of common data processing tools (R, SPSS, SAS, matlab);
  • Excellent knowledge of the main methods for determining significance, including CI and normal distribution, FDR, cross-validation and resampling (e.g. permutation, leave-one-out, bootstrap, k-fold clustering, etc.);
  • Excellent command of French and English applied to the scientific field.
