Effervescent, multidisciplinary and innovative, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) is one of the largest faculties at Université de Montréal. It offers 300 undergraduate and graduate programs, some of which are unique in Québec, in 29 departments, schools, centers and institutes. It is also home to some thirty interdisciplinary research centers and groups. On a daily basis, our 650 faculty members shape tomorrow’s world by breaking down barriers between knowledge and perspectives.

Founded in 1942, the Department of Psychology is the oldest French-speaking psychology department in North America, with 60 career professors. Accredited by the Canadian Psychological Association, the clinical psychology sector was the first in Quebec to offer graduate training in intervention and research in health psychology.
The successful candidate will be able to share his or her expertise and deploy his or her research program on health inequities.

 

Your daily challenges

Through your teaching of undergraduate and graduate students and your research activities, you will contribute to promoting the Faculty’s excellence. You will also promote the reputation of your discipline and play an active role in the operations of a renowned institution. As such, you will :

  • Teach at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels (Ph.D. Research/Intervention and D.Psy. programs in clinical psychology, M.Sc. and Ph.D. Research programs in psychology);
  • Supervise graduate research leading to master’s theses, dissertations or doctoral essays;
  • Develop an innovative, high-level research program aimed at understanding the psychological, social, socioeconomic, ethnic or cultural factors that promote health, reduce disease risk and health inequities, or contribute to the management of physical illness (e.g., pain); comfortable with a range of methodological approaches in health psychology, such as daily measures, longitudinal studies, epidemiological surveys and intervention methods, qualitative designs, partnership research, etc..;
  • Contribute to the influence of the discipline and the University by disseminating knowledge through conferences, publications and scientific and professional activities;
  • Contribute to the operation and development of the Department of Psychology, including the activities of the Clinical Psychology Sector, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Institution.

What you need to succeed in this role

  • Doctorate in clinical psychology or equivalent;
  • Be at the beginning of your teaching career, as the position is open at the rank of assistant;
  • Expertise in socio-cultural determinants and health equity;
  • Have practical experience in assessment, intervention or prevention with clients in the health field, including experience in promoting justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in health;
  • Ability to teach health psychology theories and methodologies, as well as approaches promoting justice, equity, diversity and inclusion in health;
  • Demonstrate, through publications in peer-reviewed journals, scientific competence and ability to contribute to the reputation of the Department and the University;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des psychologues du Québec or be eligible for membership in the near future;
  • Demonstrate the ability to provide high-quality university education;
  • Demonstrate the potential to develop internal, national and international collaborations;
  • Teaching could take place at both the Montreal and Laval campuses;
  • Have sufficient knowledge of the French language or be determined to learn it once in post through the French language learning support program offered by UdeM, under the Université de Montréal Language Policy.
