Recruitment : Master’s Students in Rehabilitation Science

Researchers Phillipe Archambautl, erg, Ph.D. (CRIR-HJR, McGill) and Félix Chénier, Ph.D. (CRIR-IURDPM, UQAM) are looking for Master’s Students in Rehabilitation Sciences for a project in the field of robotic-assisted rehabilitation.

This project would start as soon as possible.

Recently, our team built a manual wheelchair propulsion simulator with virtual reality, which combines visual immersion, tilt, and force feedback. This simulator aims to train wheelchair users to become more independent and adopt a propulsion technique that protects their shoulders.

The project aims to use this simulator to generate feedback and automated reports for the user and their therapist, in the form of graphs and reports.

The student will:

  1. Select the biomechanical variables to present to users as well as their presentation format, using an iterative co-design process involving researchers, users, and clinicians.
  2. Program methods for calculating and displaying these variables.
  3. Validate the improvement of the propulsion technique through feedback of the variables chosen in the previous step, during a preliminary study with two groups of participants.

The student will be co-supervised by:

Philippe Archambault, PhD, erg.
Professor, School of Physical and Occupational Therapy, McGill University
Researcher, Advanced Rehabilitation Technology Laboratory, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal (CRIR)

Félix Chénier, PhD
Professor, UQAM, Department of Physical Activity Sciences
Researcher, Laboratory for Research in Mobility and Adapted Sports, Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal https://felixchenier.uqam.ca

The candidate must demonstrate:

  • Previous training related to the project, ideally in rehabilitation, physical activity sciences, or biomedical engineering.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • High autonomy, particularly related to programming and debugging.
  • Excellent motivation.
  • A good academic record.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
