CRIR Graduate Scholarships Program | 2026

INSTRUCTIONS

Application deadline: Sunday, May 10, 2026, 11:45 p.m.

To be eligible for the CRIR graduate scholarship competition, you must:

  • Be registered in a regular research master’s, doctoral research program in fall 2026;
  • Be a CRIR student member in good standing at CRIR (for those starting in the fall of 2026, please complete the membership registration form now here);
  • Be supervised by a researcher with regular member status at the CRIR (your principal supervisor) who is in good standing;
  • Have achieved a cumulative grade point averages (GPA) greater than 3.5 out of 4.3 or 3.1 out of 4.0, or the equivalent, throughout all of your university studies (bachelor’s, master’s, doctoral).

  • Have your application reviewed before submitting it to CRIR: We recommend that you have your research proposal and resume reviewed by your principal supervisor. Student support services are also available at universities to assist with scholarship applications: University of Montreal (student support), University of Montreal (preparation guide), UQAM (student support), McGill University (student support).
  • Evaluation grid: take note of the evaluation grid, before and after preparing your application.
  • Application form: Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*), and some items are “optional” or “if applicable.”
  • Guidelines for naming your documents: Last name, First name, Level of study, Type of document (e.g., project, transcripts, resume).
  • Save and continue later: The information you enter can be saved at any time. Simply use the “Save and continue later” button at the bottom of the page. You can return to the form at a later time. You will receive a link via email. You have up to 90 days to complete the form. Note: Documents that must be attached in PDF format should only be added when you submit the final, completed form.
  • Documents to attach: Documents must be inserted individually in the designated sections of the form and then combined into a single PDF file, which must be uploaded at section 11 of the form.
Incomplete applications: Incomplete applications will be withdrawn from the competition before being reviewed by the evaluation committee.

1. Description of your research project

Document to attach. Maximum 2.5 pages. Written in Times New Roman 12, single spacing, minimum margins of 2.54 cm. A reference list may be added as an appendix.

List the amounts received and the periods of coverage for each scholarship and award received (period = month and year from the start to the end of the coverage) – Use the resume template of your choice.

3. Academic transcripts from all your university studies

Documents to submit: All academic transcripts for each level of university study you have completed in Quebec, another Canadian province, or another country (undergraduate and graduate). Both official and unofficial transcripts are accepted.

To ensure a fair evaluation of the cumulative GPA for all students, if you do not have transcripts—for example, in the case of a French doctoral degree—or if you have completed internships or exchange programs for which you received grades that do not appear on your official transcripts, please submit a supporting letter.

    4. Table showing your proof of equivalency

    • Item 4a applies only to students who have studied abroad or in another Canadian province. This table is mandatory to confirm your application.
    • Item 4b applies to all students.
    In addition to your academic transcripts (which you submitted in the previous step), you must provide a table presenting your proofs of equivalency to demonstrate the cumulative GPA for each level of university study, in another country or other Canadian province where each degree was obtained (undergraduate and graduate). Please specify your cumulative average and the grading scale used (e.g. out of 4.3 or 4.0).

      6. Capacity for commitment

      Describe your “commitment”: integrated approach, social engagement, sustainable health, and principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI)

      By “commitment” we mean civic participation, a contribution to the life of one’s community and to the common good. Example: Tell us your story! Demonstrate achievements that are specific to your background, describe what you will do in the coming year to get involved.

      • Present your path in an integrated manner , establishing the links between your experiences and interests on the one hand, and your choices of orientation, training, and academic pathway on the other. This description should enable the evaluation committee to gain a clear understanding of your personal background.
      • Present and describe the activities that demonstrate your ability to bring science and society into dialogue (e.g. science popularization activities, participation in events aimed at the general public) and your capacity for commitment (e.g. volunteer work, community projects, civic and community involvement, organization of events).
      • Specify how your research project takes into account sustainable health (docx) and EDI principles.
      • Incorporate sex and gender into the project’s content and, if applicable, into your research approach and stance.
