The Committee on Innovative Practices in Research Ethics (PIER) aims to support research teams while exploring various approaches to address new challenges in research ethics.
PIER Priority issues identified
Recruitment
Exploring and critiquing innovative recruitment strategies (e.g. virtual recruitment; participant banks; third-party recruitment; principles of equitý/diversitý/inclusion in recruitment)
Digital data management
Adapting to the challenge of protecting privacy in massive data or cloud-based projects (e.g. telerehabilitation, artificial intelligence, public data banks, data retention in case of telecommuting)
Tools to support
Support for student and researcher members by the Research Ethics Committee (CER)
The committee ensures that it represents the various categories of members, the different CRIR sites, and research ethics: students, research staff, researchers, clinical research coordination staff, CRIR scientific management, and research ethics specialists. The PIER Committee may also consult citizen partners or other experts as needed. Functioning of the PIER Committee
Functioning of the PIER Committee
- 4-6 meetings per year
- Reports to the Comité d’orientation à la recherche (COR) to include all perspectives in reflections.
- One-year renewable mandate.
- Committee composition is diversified, with representatives from each site and several categories of members. The committee may consult citizen partners or others as needed.
