Dance for Health Research Laboratory

Description

This research lab focuses on dance for health. Its research program is focused on, but not limited to, the development, description, and evaluation of adapted dance interventions and programs, including both dance content and teaching pedagogy and their effects on various dimensions of health. Such dance interventions and programs call for collaborative processes that are both interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral in perspective.

Objectives :

  • Co-develop (tele)dance interventions and programs in collaboration with key stakeholders;
  • Adapt dance by integrating scientific knowledge and experiences from different fields, while emphasizing its artistic dimension;
  • Provide innovative dance solutions to complex problems in the health care field, particularly in rehabilitation;
  • Describe and design dance interventions and programs for evaluative studies and knowledge transfer activities;
  • Contribute to the education of dance, health, and community professionals in the area of adaptive and inclusive dance.

The research program features projects aimed at several different clienteles, young and old, and dealing with various issues. An important place is given to the adaptation of dance for stroke rehabilitation, in the perspective of a continuum of care (from the acute phase to the social reintegration phase).
